​Doulahood brings the focus of postpartum doula support back to whole family care including; educational and hands on support as well as physical, mental and emotional nourishment. 
​Doulahood was born with the intention of building continuity of care for new families among a community of closely connected doulas. We believe that by strengthening our doula community, we can offer a deeper level of quality care to clients. We also have a commitment to expanding the access of postpartum support within our communities.

What does a Postpartum Doula do?
A postpartum doula provides non judgemental care for the new family through support of parent's needs, newborn care and instruction, breast/chest feeding support, emotional support, household support and more!

​DAYTIME POSTPARTUM SUPPORT 

Lactation and Baby Feeding Support and Education

• supporting milk supply
• achieving a comfortable and effective latch 
• comfort and coping methods for breast health
• develop a healthy and sustainable feeding relationship with your baby, breast and bottle
• resource and information about pumping, bottles and formula
  making sure you are taken care of while nursing/feeding (have water, don't need to get up etc.)

Support your body's healing process from either vaginal or cesarean birth 

• prepare herbs to be used for healing sitz bath
• regular check-ins about postpartum physical/mental recovery and health
• brew tasty and soothing teas that support lactation and the new family

Newborn Care and Instruction:

• hands on instruction of newborn care techniques: swaddling, diapering, calming techniques
• allow you to take a break from caring for baby to rest, shower, eat etc
• show you developmentally appropriate ways to engage with your baby

Emotional Support

• a non judgmental person to listen 
• keeping an eye out for postpartum mood disorders
• allowing you time without baby to rejuvenate, spend time with partner or older children

Household Support

• light housework (dishes, laundry, straightening)
• meal prep and simple cooking
• organization of nursery and home

OVERNIGHT POSTPARTUM SUPPORT

Newborn Care

• takes full care of baby while parents sleep in another room
• either gives bottle or brings baby to mom for breastfeeding 
• diaper changes, burps and soothes baby between feeding session, breast or bottle
• answers questions and provides helpful resources
• provides parents a record of baby's night 

Parent Support​

• brings mom clean pump parts for each pumping session and collects milk for use or proper storage
• prepare snack for breastfeeding or pumping parent

Household Support *baby is always the priority but household support can be offered when time allows

• wash (if laundry is in home) and fold baby laundry
• wash bottles and pump parts
• light meal prep if time allows
